Meet the team at Cardinal Physical Therapy, located in Chesterland, Ohio. We are focused on treating the patient as a whole, an essential quality to excellent care. Dedicated to relieving pain by treating the underlying causes, Cardinal Physical Therapy, combines advanced manual techniques with specialized exercises to treat pain.
Marie Szczyglowski, PTA

Owner/ Physical Therapist Assistant
Cardinal Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation is locally owned and operated by Marie Szczyglowski. Marie has been in the therapy field since 1996. She graduated from Kent State University in 1999 with a Physical Therapy Assistant degree.
After graduation, Marie continued to add to her clinical skills by earning certifications in the areas of Fall Prevention as well as being a Graston Certified Specialist.
After spending 12 years in the outpatient physical therapy arena with a strong emphasis in operational management, Marie made the decision to marry her clinical and operational knowledge to develop a new leader in outpatient therapy: Cardinal Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation.
In January 2012, Cardinal Physical Therapy opened its first patient care facility in Chesterland, Ohio. Marie chose the Chesterland area so she could make a difference in this and the surrounding communities where her own family resides.
Dr. Jennie Avsec, PT, DPT

Physical Therapist
Dr. Avsec completed her Doctor of Physical Therapy degree and her Bachelor of Science degree in Biology at Walsh University. Dr. Avsec's clinical rotations had a heavy emphasis in manual therapy which she has transitioned into the clinic.
Dr. Avsec enjoys working with a variety of orthopedic Patients of all ranges, as well as specializing in a variety of pediatric conditions. She believes that Patient education, maintaining a healthy Patient/Therapist relationship, and treating the Patient as a whole is essential to the quality of care.
In addition to her PT degree, Jennie has earned certifications in the areas of Fall Prevention as well as being a Graston Certified Specialist.
Dr. Avsec’s goal for every Patient is independence, learning how to maintain optimal function, and to decrease the risk of future pain and injury.
Elizabeth Bednar, PT

Physical Therapist
Beth completed her Physical Therapy degree at Cleveland State University in 1997.
In her time as a clinician, Beth has practiced in a variety of affiliations- Acute care, SNF, Home Health and Outpatient Physical Therapy facilities with an emphasis on Geriatric, neurological, balance and orthopedic therapy.
Throughout her time as a Physical Therapist, Beth has been devoted to quality patient care and rehabilitation to return Patients to normal lifestyles.
Beth has a passion for continuing education is a certified Sacroiliac Joint Specialist.
Margy Kerestesy, PTA

Physical Therapist Assistant
Margy completed her degree at Cuyahoga Community College with an Associates in Applied Science and a Physical Therapy Assistant Degree in 1995. She has worked in all areas of therapy. She started her career at a large Cleveland based hospital system working in the acute hospital, rehab hospital, Skilled Nursing, Outpatient, and Outpatient Neurological over a period of 17 years. After relocating to Maryland in 2010 she worked at an outpatient clinic at a Continued Care Retirement Community – working with a variety of diagnosis - orthopedic, CVA/neurological, Parkinson’s, and balance.
Margy moved back to Ohio in April 2022 and began working at Cardinal Physical Therapy where she is fortunate to be using all her previous skills and knowledge.
Margy’s certifications and areas of expertise include: LSVT Big Certified, NDT trained – (Neuro-Developmental Treatment), McKenzie Method trained for both back and neck, and Graston Certified.
Margy’s favorite part of her job is getting to know her Patients and using that information to develop a functional home exercise plan that works into their daily lives and that they truly enjoy. Margy truly believes that as we age it is critically important to make exercise part of our daily lives.
Anna Brodnik, PTA

Physical Therapist Assistant
Anna graduated from Kent State University in 2022 with a Physical Therapist Assistant degree.
She began her career as a therapist in the skilled nursing setting, but when the opportunity arose moved to outpatient care where she has a passion for treating a diverse Patient population with a variety of diagnoses.
In addition to her PTA degree, Anna earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science in 2018 from Cleveland State University. She is a certified Group Exercise Instructor with a specialty certification in Pilates and continues to teach group exercise classes in her spare time.
Anna enjoys working in outpatient physical therapy to be able to help her patients get back to the activities and hobbies they love.
J.P. Szczyglowski, CEO

Chief Executive Officer
J.P. joined Cardinal Physical Therapy in 2021 as the Company’s CEO.
J.P. earned a Masters in Economics degree from Bowling Green State University in 1996. From ’96 until 2021 he worked in the Banking and Mortgage industries in various high level operational leadership roles.
As CEO, J.P., is responsible for providing strategic, financial and operational leadership for the Company. He works closely with the Clinical Team to ensure compliance with healthcare documentation requirements and the provision of high level clinical care.
J.P.’s favorite role at Cardinal is engaging with Patients on a daily basis to discuss the latest sports, news, or current event stories.
Mary Malloy

Patient Service Specialist
Mary has been a member of Cardinal for over 5 years. She is responsible for gathering and processing new patient information, managing all daily operational tasks, and works diligently to investigate pending claims.
Mary is familiar with navigating call centers of insurance companies and physician’s offices to resolve discrepancies.
Mary most enjoys taking a break from the front desk to greet, engage and motivate patients during their exercises.
Marsha Smith

Volunteer
Marsha was previously a patient at Cardinal who enjoyed the atmosphere and values so much that she decided to volunteer her time in the clinic. Marsha’s responsibilities include laundry, sanitizing tables after every patient, maintaining storage supplies, and is always ready to perform other duties when called upon.
Marsha enjoys interacting with patients and making every patient feel welcomed.
